Impressions of the San Andreas Fault
The deformity makes life visible here
Amid a dry land, sand and broken stone
A little moisture creeps to the surface
Where living things cluster around the cracks
Even prophets need water and a little shade
They wander the shattered face of the planet
Lead congregations of ingrates who grumble
"We are hungry," "We are thirsty," "Where is the Lord?"
Until in their discomfort they finally discover
The best places for life are sometimes the most dangerous.
